On July 31, at a publication symposium on the
Outline of studying Jiang Zemin's Thinking on National Defense and Army Building
held by the CPC Central Military Commission, Guo Boxiong, member of the
Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the CPC and vice-chairman of the
Central Military Commission, pointed out that the official publication of the
Outline and its distribution throughout the armed forces is of great importance
towards starting a new upsurge of studying and implementing the important
thought of "Three Represents" in the armed forces and deepening our
understanding of the essence of Jiang Zemin's thinking on national defense and
army building.
Guo noted in his speech that we should fully
apprehend the profound significance of study ing and implementing Jiang Zemin's
thinking on national defense and army building. By creatively applying Mao
Zedong's military thinking and Deng Xiaoping's concept of army building in the
new period, Chairman Jiang made unremitting exploration and practice on the
basis of his series of important policy decisions and brilliant expositions on
some basic issues under new historical conditions, such as what kind of an army
we should build and how to build, what kind of war we anticipate to fight in
future and how to fight. We must deepen our understanding of the important
theoretical and practical significance of Jiang Zemin's thinking on national
defense and army building, and unwaveringly uphold its guiding position.
Guo further emphasized that to study and
implement Jiang Zemin's thinking on national defense and army building was a
strategic measure taken in a pioneering and innovative spirit under the new
situation to enable our national defense and army building to keep up with the
times. Guo finally called on all the troops to make efforts to deeply apprehend
the scientific system and essence of Jiang's thinking on national defense and
army building, adopt measures to apply Jiang Zemin's thinking on national
defense and army building to the Party building and ideological and political
work of the army, resolutely overcome formalism and bureaucratism, and keep
paces with the times and do a solid work in boosting the military changes with
Chinese characteristics and build a powerful revolutionary, modernized and
regularized people's army.
