China-made peacekeeping transport equipment goes abroad for the first time
Yesterday at the departure spot of the Chinese peacekeeping
transport team to Liberia, the reporter learned that 179 sophisticated
transportation vehicles for signal communication, logistics support and
maintenance & repair, etc. had arrived at Monrovia harbor of Liberia on
March 17 by sea. This is the first time the large-scale home-made high-tech
transportation equipment go abroad to carry out peacekeeping operation since
China's participation in the UN's peacekeeping missions.
The vehicles for the Chinese peacekeeping transport team to
Liberia include field transport vehicles, field command vehicles, signal
communication vehicles, recovery vehicles and refueling vehicles, and all of
them are advanced equipment made in China with strong independent support
capabilities. 100 5-ton field transport trucks are equipped with air
conditioners and double berths, and they are suitable to be used in tropical
Africa where road conditions are rough and temperature are high. The tactical
field POL depot can swiftly provide POL supply to vehicles. Two sets of field
trailer-mounted power stations can basically meet daily power requirements of
the barracks of the Chinese peacekeeping force. In addition, the Chinese
peacekeeping transport team has also been equipped with GPS, vehicle-mounted
signal communication system, maritime satellite telephone and so on, all these
can not only provide smooth communication within the Chinese peacekeeping forces
during the operation, but also facilitate their contact with people in China at
any time.
Various new types of logistics support vehicles for water
purification, water transport, bathing, refrigeration, field cooking and
ambulances can fully meet daily needs of the Chinese peacekeeping forces in
Liberia. The field bathing vehicles can provide 48 person/time per hour for
bathing after water drawn from rivers or reservoirs being purified, sterilized,
and heated up. Each latest field-cooking vehicle can provide Chinese food and
beverage for 300 officers and men.
It is learned that the officers and men of the Chinese
peacekeeping transport team have undergone one-year intensified training to
master the required operational skill of these high-tech special equipment, and
all of them are fully qualified to operate these new equipment in their
fulfillment of forthcoming peacekeeping missions.
