Guanglie, NPC deputy from the PLA, member of the Central Military Commission and
chief of the general staff of the PLA, said at the PLA delegation panel meeting
that the Government Work Report delivered by Premier Wen Jiabao had set forth
new missions and requirements for further strengthening national defense and
army building. The PLA should earnestly implement the strategic decisions made
by the Central Committee of the CPC and the Central Military Commission, more
consciously plan and guide military work from the political height and the
national interests as a whole, steadily push forward the military changes with
Chinese characteristics and various preparations for the military struggle,
strive hard to improve overall combat effectiveness of the troops under
informationzation conditions. He continued to say that the PLA should adapt
itself to the requirements of the military changes with Chinese characteristics
and speed up its informationization drive. The preparations for the military
struggle should be made in a down-to-earth way while military talents
cultivation should be done in an energetic way. The building of national defense
mobilization and reserve forces should be further strengthened and the fighting
power of the troops should be continuously boosted. In the new century and the
new period, the PLA must continue to resolutely safeguard the national
sovereignty, unity and stability and conscientiously shoulder the historical
missions entrusted by the Party and the people.
