There has
been extensive coverage in foreign media of Chinese President Hu Jintao's speech
delivered last Friday, focusing on relations across the Taiwan Straits.
The "New Zealand Mirror" said that Hu Jintao set out four
guidelines on cross-Straits relations in his remarks, which would be sure to win
the agreement of Taiwan compatriots.
The largest circulation Chinese-language newspaper in
Philippines, the"World News", reported that Hu Jintao's speech expressed the
Chinese central government's utmost sincerity in realizing peaceful
reunification.
One of Spain's most influential newspapers, ABC, devoted
two entire pages to Hu Jintao's guidelines, saying that the speech focused on
preventing Taiwan independence and stressed China's intolerance of independence
activities.
