Deputy Tang Yuying suggests recruiting college students should be covered in Military Service Law

2005-03-09 17:04:57

“In late November last year, five of the nine student-turned soldiers, who were about to return back to their original colleges after completing the service in a regiment of the Chengdu Military Area Command, received citations for merits and four of them were elected as outstanding soldiers.” said Tang Yuying, an NPC deputy from a communication regiment of the PLA General Staff Headquarters.

She is about to submit a proposal that the Military Service Law should include the article of recruiting the full-time college students. According to Tang, many college students joined the army every year since 2001 when an experimental project was got into gear to enlist college students. They have contributed to army building with their superiority in knowledge in the fields of law, machinery, management, computer, IT and so on. However, the absence of a unified national standard, policies and standard guidance hinders the conscription of college students. For this reason, Tang proposed an amendment to the Military Service Law.
