In the traveling bag of Zeng Jiao, who is the chief of staff of a brigade
of the Second Artillery Force and is now in Beijing attending the NPC, there are
3 heavy volumes of investigation and research materials on promoting military
changes with Chinese characteristics and getting prepared for military struggle
and over 10 volumes on high-tech military sciences. When the reporter visited
him at deep night, he was found burying himself in them.
“In today's world, the information technology is developing rapidly, which
greatly influences the process of the world revolution in military affairs. We
should bravely shoulder the historic mission of this generation's servicemen
with great senses of urgency and mission while keeping in mind that ‘time and
tide wait for no man'.” The proposals put forward by Zeng Jiao and other NPC
deputies from the army suggesting that the top level designing of
informationization should be done well and that the army building should take
the economic benefits into account have aroused strong echoes.
Zeng was awarded the honorary title of Pacesetter in Loving the Army and
Mastering Military Skills by the Central Military Commission 11 years ago when
he was a platoon leader. In 2004, he was appointed chief of staff of a brigade
of the Second Artillery Force.
As a member of the presidium of the general meeting, Zeng has never stopped
thinking about the fate of the country and the mission of serviceman. Looking
out the window at the lights twinkling in myriad households, he said, “It is the
servicemen's duty to defend national security and protect the harmonious and
peaceful life of the people. Only with competent battle effectiveness can these
be secured.”
