Deputy advocates joint army-civilian efforts to build the frontier
| 2005-03-14 17:03:02 | Yesterday
afternoon at the third plenary meeting of the PLA delegation to the annual
session of the 10th National People’s Congress, NPC deputy Wang Guosheng
suggested that the army and the civilians should make joint efforts to build a
strong frontier defense and safeguard the harmony and prosperity of the
frontier. He said the border areas, while sticking to scientific development
concept, should seize the opportunity of the nation’s ongoing western
development strategy to further enhance the infrastructure construction and
carry through the preferential policies given by the state to the western
regions in terms of investment, taxation, resources and trade and so on to speed
up the economic development of the regions inhabited by minority ethnic groups
and promote the unity between different nationalities and social stability.
Efforts should be made to improve the conditions of schools in the minority
regions, enlarge the coverage of the broadcasting and television network, carry
out more educational activities on science and culture to help people of various
nationalities to continuously improve their political consciousness, legal
awareness and scientific and cultural quality.
