BEIJING, May 6 (Xinhuanet) -- Chinese Kuomintang (KMT) Party leader Lien
Chan's recent visit to China's mainland and his meeting with Communist Party of
China (CPC) leader Hu Jintao have gained applause from many international media.
US Chinese newspaper The China Press Friday commented positively on Lien's
mainland visit, while calling on the Taiwanese authority to abandon its
pro-independence stance, recognize the 1992 consensus, and seek reconciliation
across the Taiwan Straits.
The commentary said that recent polls on the Taiwan island showed that most
Taiwanese people support Lien's approach of trying to seek peace for both sides
across the Straits and opposing Taiwan's independence.
Romania's Chinese newspaper Europe Weekly Business editorialized that as
far as the KMT and CPC can sit down to talk about the future across the Taiwan
Straits, it's already a victory. Lien's historic meeting with CPC General
Secretary Hu Jintao shows that Chinese people have the wisdom and ability to
solve their own problems and don't need outside interference.
The editorial noted that for the long-lasting interests of the Chinese
people and their next generations, China must gain reunification.
The newspaper also thinks the most important outcome of the Hu-Lien talks
is that both parties clearly expressed their insistence on the 1992 consensus
and objection to Taiwan independence in their joint press communique released
after the talks.
Argentina's Chinese newspaper World News weekly commented in its editorial
that the meeting of the two party leaders have opened a gate for the two parties
to compromise. "There is new hope for China's future," the newspaper said.
