BEIJING, May 4 (Xinhuanet)
-- The Alliance for the Reunification of China (ARC) issued a statement on
Chinese Kuomintang (KMT) Party Chairman Lien Chan's mainland visit,
referring the reconciliation and cooperation between the KMT and CPC as
historical and practical significance at a press conference held in Taipei
Wednesday.
The statement says Chinese
on both sides of the Taiwan Straits should become brothers and sisters who
love and care for each other without jealous and suspicious. People on
both sides should expand economic, trade and cultural exchanges for their
mutual benefit.
In a telephone interview
with Xinhua, ARC President Wong Jin Pin said the press communique, signed
by Lien Chan and Hu Jintao, general secretary of the Central Committee of
the Communist Party of China (CPC) after a meeting in Beijing, reached
agreements on three common endorsement and a five-point consensus for
"promoting peace and development across the Taiwan Straits."
He called it "a positive
contribution that the KMT and CPC had made for the benefits of the
motherland and people on both sides of the Taiwan Straits," and said
"Chinese on both sides of the Taiwan Straits and other parts of the world
should render support and a positive assessment to this."
The statement urged
separatists in and out of Taiwan to face up to the irreversible historical
trend of development of cross-straits relations and give up "Taiwan
Independence." |
