The friendship forged during "Peace Mission 2005" will be ever lasting

Senior General (retired) Galiyev, representative of the Russian veterans and Chairman of the Russian Institute for Military Science Studies, who came to Qingdao upon invitation to watch the "Peace Mission 2005" China-Russia Joint Military Exercise, said during an interview with the reporter on August 24 that the ongoing Sino-Russia Joint Military Exercise was carried out smoothly, and it would further deepen the mutual-trust and friendship between the two armed forces.

The 82-year-old Senior General (retired) Galiyev had the experience of taking part in the Russia's Great Patriotic War. From 1984 to 1990, he held the position of the deputy chief of the general staff of the former Soviet Union's Armed Forces in charge of military training and operation. He said: "During World War II, we fought shoulder to shoulder with the Chinese army against the Japanese militarists, and established deep friendship with them. Today, the relationship between China and Russia has been developing smoothly and the mutual-trust between the two armed forces has been deepened constantly, hence the possibility of conducting this joint military exercise. The Russian armed forces are carrying out military reforms, while the Chinese counterpart is carrying out modernization construction. These two armed forces should learn from each other and exchange experiences so as to make greater contributions to safeguarding the world peace.
