The reviewing platform became the stage, the drilling ground became an open
theater, while tanks and combat vehicles were turned to audience seats.
Yesterday, nearly 10,000 officers and men from the Chinese and Russian armed
forces taking part in the "Peace Mission 2005" China-Russia Joint Military
Exercise watched a large-scaled entertainment performance themed the "Song of
Peace" in Weifang.
The drilling ground was permeated with songs, and the national flags of
China and Russia were fluttering in the glow of the sunset. Artists from the
Song and Dance Troupe of the General Political Department of the PLA and the
Pacific Fleet of Russia presented their most beautiful songs and dances to the
officers and men of Chinese and Russian troops who had completed the exercise
successfully. Peng Liyuan and Cai Guoqing sang songs in Russian, receiving warm
applauses from the Russian officers and men. Songs and dances performed by
Russian artists enabled the Chinese soldiers to forget their tiredness of
drilling. As darkness fell, lights from the war vehicles illuminated the stage,
and the drilling ground became a sea of joy.
