China will vigorously develop space science and conduct deep-space
explorations, said Yuan Jiajun, chief commander of China's space program and
president of the China Academy of Space Technology, at the 5th Young
Scientist Forum of China Association for Science and Technology opened Tuesday
in Shanghai.
The goals China set for its space science development are: build
satellite-to-earth observation system of long-term stable operation; construct
an independently running satellite broadcast and communication system; construct
an independent satellite navigation and positioning system; realize manned
spacecraft flight and set up initially coordinated manned spacecraft flight
experiment system.
China will launch space science experiment satellites to form a solar
observation system of long-term stable operation; satellites will be launched to
test new technologies in the fields of payload of various kinds of satellites as
well as satellite platforms; lunar probe satellite, soft landing device and
lunar probe capable of sample collection and automatic return will also be
launched to comprehensive explore into the distribution of lunar resources.
A satellite-to-earth observation system over land, ocean, meteorology and
environment will be set up to realize precise, real-time, continuous and
all-weather observation through means of visible light, infrared ray and macro
wave.
Efforts will also be made to construct a satellite broadcast and
communication system covering fixed-line communication, mobile communication,
live TV broadcast, live video broadcast, broadband multi-media communication,
regional mobile communication and data relay. The goal is to realize over
100,000 network supported users and 100 percent of coverage by satellite TV and
broadcast.
The country's second-generation regional navigation positioning system will
be extended into a global positioning system to realize platformless,
three-dimensional and high-precision navigation, positioning and time service.
On the base of manned space flight, breakthroughs will be made in
rendezvous and space walking technologies. A "space laboratory program" is
planned to achieve a space system capable of long-term independent flight and
short-term human cares, so as to lay a technological foundation for developing
space station.
