The
astronaut is having meal in the spacecraft.
Around 10:00am on October 13, the large monitoring screen of the Beijing
Aerospace Command and Control Center displayed the real-time scene inside the
capsule of the Shenzhou VI Spacecraft.
In the re-entry capsule, only Astronaut Nie Haisheng could be seen sitting
on a chair. What was Fei Junlong doing? Chen Bin, head designer of the space
food system told the reporter that Fei was having his meal in the orbital
module.
According to the stipulations, the two astronauts cannot have their meals
at the same time, as there must be one on duty in the re-entry capsule all the
time.
Soon the scene was switched, we could see Fei, clad in blue working suit,
was floating like an angel from the re-entry capsule back into the orbital
module, where he would prepare his "space lunch ".
Fei opened a square box, from which he took out several food bags made of
aluminum foil and food cans. He put the bags into a milky-white case, which was
actually a space food heater used for the first time by the Chinese astronauts
in space. It can heat up the food up to 80℃ in half an hour.
Then Fei took out a rectangular meal tray, a spoon and a fork from a
tableware case. The tray is made of magnetic material so that it can attract the
spoon and fork on it to prevent them from flying away in gravity-free
environment.
Half an hour later, a plate of sumptuous "space meal" was ready. As the
pickup camera in the module was fixed at certain location, the reporter could
not see clearly what kind of dishes they were. A scientific worker at my side
told reporter, " In the large aluminum bag is eight-treasure rice pudding, while
in the small bags are possibly beef, stir-fried chicken with chili and peanuts,
and skewer-roasted pork …"
So they have great variety of dishes! Fei raised his spoon in front of the
camera and started to enjoy his "space meal". The aroma from his dishes seemed
to have wafted into the hall of the Aerospace Command and Control Center…
Listening to the introduction of the scientific worker and watching the
scenes of the module, the reporter couldn't help admiring the wisdom and
meticulousness of those scientific workers.
