"As the intrinsic spirit of the socialist system, the socialist core value system serves as the spiritual bond of unity and harmony of the whole Chinese nation, and a bond which can inspire the entire people of the Chinese nation to work hard and aim high." Li Ke became emotional when he talked about the contents of adhering to the socialist core value system, touched upon by Central Military Commission Chairman Hu Jintao in his important speech. Li Ke is a military NPC deputy attending the ongoing NPC session and deputy political director of an air defense missile battalion of the Nanjing Military Area Command.

　　After two decades of the reform and opening-up, the economic sectors, the main body of interests, the social organizations and the social lifestyle in Chinese society have become increasingly diversified, likewise the people's thinking and value orientations have unavoidably become versatile. Deputy Li Ke held that the socialist core value system is the most fundamental, and at the very heart and the most important part of the social value system in China, which occupies the dominant position and plays a guiding and leading role in all socialist value objectives.

　　"In my opinion, to judge a nation whether it is great or not, one of the important aspects to be considered is whether it has numerous forerunners who stepped forward and continued to struggle under impossible conditions when those at the front fell, and who were able to lead others to explore new realm and new era of the national spirit. The PLA has the inherent ability to breed and pursue loftiness." Li Ke then cited a few examples to prove his viewpoint. He said that any social group had the right to shy away from danger under emergent situation, while only the servicemen gave up this right on their own. During the combat, they would advance bravely towards dangers in front without least reservation at the first order and stare death in the face. In the course of 8 decades of the revolutionary endeavor, the PLA has performed numerous glorious feats, and which have brought out conspicuously the spirit and character of the great Chinese nation.

　　"As for the PLA in the new period, sacrifices and dedication are not only confined to the battlefields. As an armed group performing special political tasks under the absolute leadership of the Party, the officers and men of the PLA have always taken the Party's banner as their own banner, the Party's orientation as their own orientation and the Party's will as their own will. In the building of the socialist core value system, the officers and men of the PLA, who have taken patriotism, sacrifice and dedication as their core value, are bound to develop their skill to the full, as their pursuit accords with the essence of the socialist core value system."
