Deputy Liu Qide: "Taiwan independence" is doomed to failure

"Listening to the important speech made by Central Military Commission Chairman Hu Jintao to the PLA delegation this afternoon has implanted in me a stronger sense of responsibility, urgency and mission," said Liu Qide, PLA deputy to the NPC and chief of staff of a base of the Second Artillery Force, with emotions.

Deputy Liu Qide holds the view that the Taiwan authority has been provoking the Chinese mainland time and again in a bid to create deliberately a tense situation across the Taiwan Straits, and for that matter, we must get everything ready to deal with it and be resolved to foil anyone's intrigue to secede Taiwan from China in any name and by any means, and firmly defend our national sovereignty, unification and territorial integrity.

"Defending the national sovereignty and territorial integrity are the sacred missions of the servicemen and likewise the embodiment of their values," stated Deputy Liu Qide. He then noted that we would certainly not be vague or, let alone, make concession on such important issue of principle as anti-secession.

"Servicemen fight for winning by nature, but they cherish peace even more," said Deputy Liu Qide. All the sons and daughters of the Chinese nation are longing for peaceful cross-strait unification, since it is in line with the fundamental interests of the Chinese nation. For that reason, "we will work together with the entire Chinese people to keep on further promoting the relations across the Taiwan Straits to progress toward the direction of peace and stability with the utmost sincerity and greatest endeavors."
