At noontime yesterday in Jingxi Hotel, many civilian NPC deputies invited
the PLA NPC deputies to pose for a group photo to mark the occasion. "Well,
let's shake hands again in the battlefield of the coordinated development of
national defense and economic development!" This actually reflects the heartfelt
wish of many military and civilian NPC deputies.
After studying and comprehending Chairman Hu Jintao's important exposition,
"We must always rely on people for building up our national defense and army",
many PLA deputies said with emotion: why the people's army has been able to grow
from strength to strength, the most fundamental reason is our army's consistent
upholding of the leadership of the Communist Party of China, plus the backing of
the people, thus we must always share identify ourselves heart and soul with the
Party, the state and the people.
NPC Deputy Guo Hongchao, deputy commander of the Lanzhou Military Area
Command, makes it a point of organizing officers working in the headquarters to
make study tour of Yan'an every year. He said, "In those revolutionary war
years, the broad masses of workers and peasants associated their own fate
closely with that of the Chinese revolution, displaying great vigor and
enthusiasm in their support for the front. Today, the mass foundation of the
Party has been expanded than ever before, but the idea of sticking to the
concept of the people's war has remained unchanged. Therefore when we study and
implement the spirit of the important speech of Chairman Hu, we must keep this
idea firmly in mind."
"We should carry out extensive education on national defense to enhance the
entire people's awareness of national defense," said Deputy Luo Liewen from the
Sichuan Provincial Military Command. National defense education is the
foundation for building and strengthening national defense, and an important
approach for building up national defense strength. A national defense education
base system featuring revolutionary martyr commemorative architecture groups and
revolutionary historical sites has now been established in Sichuan Province in
recent years, and more than 400 national defense education bases have kept their
doors widely open to the general public. Luo said that they must do a good job
of "building, managing and using" national defense education bases so as to let
the bases truly give play to their educational function.
While commenting on the Opinions on Pushing Forward the Outsourcing of
Logistics Support and Other Supports of the Military During the 11th Five-Year
Plan Period issued by the Central Military Commission not long ago, Deputy
Chen Guoshu said: "This will fundamentally solve the problem of army running
"small societies." At the same time, it can also help attract more citizens to
be involved in national defense and the army building."
