The People's Liberation Army is launching its biggest uniform upgrade to
enhance the image of the troops. New designs will equip the soldiers with
comfortable and fitted clothing for combat and training as well as elaborate
dress for ceremonial events.Individuality is given higher concern in the new
design.
The troops will have their full dress measured to their body sizes. And
female soldiers will wear distinctive clothing with narrower waists accessorized
with specific shoes and hats.
The fitted uniform is to boost mobility and increase combat
capability.Breathing holes have been installed under the arm, and a slot is
opened on the collar, allowing for communication equipment.
Training boots are fire and puncture proof and much lighter; while battle
dress is painted with camouflage patterns generated by advanced computer
software.Able to escape the eye, the camouflage patterns can blend into a
natural and urban environment.
The uniform upgrade is the largest for the Chinese army. During the 80
years of its development, the military wear has gone through great changes for
utilization purposes.
The first standardized uniforms were introduced in 1950. Since then, five
generations of uniforms had been incorporated. The style had been more colorful
and elaborate for some time, but gradually the concern arose for more practical
uses.Higher quality fabric was used, and wear resistance increased.
This new round of reform will upgrade all types of uniforms for the
military. All new wear is expected to be completed by 2009, but beginning August
1st, each soldier will at least have one new uniform.
