On August 1, 1927, the Nanchang Uprising initiated and commanded by Zhou
Enlai, He Long, Ye Ting, Zhu De and Liu Bocheng took place in Nanchang, capital
of Jiangxi Province. The uprising gave birth to the people's army and marked the
beginning of armed struggles under independent leadership of the Communist Party
of China (CPC).
