　　The editorial notes that the Nanchang Uprising that staged 80 years ago declared the birth of a new-type people's army, henceforth, opening a brand new page in the history of the Chinese revolution. The practices have sufficiently testified that the PLA is the nucleus force for winning the victory of the Chinese revolution, the staunch mainstay of the people's democratic dictatorship, the iron and steel Great Wall safeguarding the motherland and an important force for building socialism with Chinese characteristics.

　　The editorial holds that the 80-year history of the PLA stands for the 80 years of our Party's efforts in unceasingly promoting the innovation of Marxist military theory. In the historical course of the growth and expansion of the army, the military guiding theory of the Party progresses with the times and develops constantly, providing a scientific guidance to the construction and development of the army. In a word, the 80 years' hard struggle of our army has nourished and shaped up a range of fine traditions epitomizing the nature, the true qualities and the style of work of a people's army, which come down to what Chairman Hu Jintao has gathered up: "obey the command of the Party, serve the people and be brave and skilful in battle". The best way to mark the 80^th anniversary of the founding of the army is to carry forward and develop the fine traditions, and boost the better and faster development of the army building from the new historical starting point.

　　The article further points out that at present China has ushered in a new development stage and the army building is at a new historical starting point. The officers and men of the entire armed forces should rally around the Central Committee of the CPC with Comrade Hu Jintao as the general secretary, stick to the guidance of Deng Xiaoping Theory and the important thought of the "Three Represents", put into effect the scientific outlook on development in depth, all-roundly push forward the construction of revolutionization, modernization and standardization, hold on to and carry on the fine traditions of "obey the command of the Party, serve the people and be brave and skilful in battle", implement effectively the historical mission of the army in the new century and the new period so as to make new merits for and new achievements in realizing the complete national reunification and the great cause of rejuvenating the Chinese nation.
