The Nanjing Army Command Institute located in Nanjing City is an army command institute under the direct leadership of the General Staff Headquarters of the PLA. It has glorious history and tradition and its predecessor is the former guerrilla detachment camp school of the New Fourth Army. It was founded in Fuji Town, Jixian County, Henan Province, on November 26, 1938, and Peng Xuefeng, commander and political commissar of the Guerrilla Detachment of the New Fourth Army, was appointed as the first commandant. Army General Zhang Yunyi, Marshal Chen Yi, Army Generals Su Yu and Chen Geng, and General Chen Bingde, current member of the Central Military Commission and chief of general staff of the PLA, also held positions as the major leaders of the institute in different historical periods.
