China, as the standing member of the UN Security Council, has participated
in 16 UN peacekeeping actions since it firstly joined the action since 1990,
assigned 5915 persons/times of peacekeeping military staff, of whom, eight
sacrificed their lives and tens injured.

By the end of 2006, China had totally 1478 peacekeeping military staff
performing tasks in nine task areas and in the UN peacekeeping troops. Of whom,
92 were military observers and staff officers. 175 were in the engineering
detachment and 43 were in the medical detachment to Congo (Kinshasa); 275 were
in the engineering detachment, 240 were in the transport detachment, 43 were in
the medical detachment to Liberia; 275 were in the engineering detachment, 100
were in the transport detachment, and 60 were in the medical detachment to
Sudan; and 182 were in the engineering detachment to Lebanon. During active
participation into these international peacekeeping actions, Chinese militaries
not only adequately fulfilled their duties to UN, but also demonstrated their
excellent image of a fair, mighty and civilized force.

As the third time of changing the Chinese peacekeeping forces to
Sudan rounded off smoothly in late June, the Chinese People's Liberation Army
(PLA) haa accumulatively committed over 10,000 persons/times of military
peacekeepers to 18 UN peacekeeping missions so far. Kui Yanwei, deputy director
