Mutual trust can only be enhanced through broadening mutual contact, and mutual trust is the prerequisite for the two sides to go forward hand in hand. This is the most important impression the reporters got on Dec. 19 in Kunming to cover the Sino-Indian joint anti-terrorism training. When the special aircraft carrying the troops of the Indian army participating in the Sino-Indian joint anti-terrorism training arrived in Kunming yesterday afternoon, reporters from various newspapers rushed to the airport to cover the event. Col. Y. K. Joshi, Indian defense military attaché to China, answered the questions fired by the reporters with ease and assurance. He held that the Sino-Indian joint anti-terrorism training is an effective way to build up mutual understanding and trust between the two militaries. The reporters learned that when the advance party of the Indian troops arrived in Kunming 4 days ago, they were stiff with the Chinese servicemen. After 4 days of contact, they have now got well acquainted with Chinese servicemen and seen eye to eye with their Chinese counterparts on many concrete issues. At 3:00 p.m. yesterday afternoon, the officers and men of the Indian troops lined up on a parking apron. Since it is the first time for Indian officers and men to come to China, it was quite natural that many of them felt ill at ease with the welcoming Chinese crowd. The reporters believed that after living together and having joint trainings with their Chinese counterparts for a couple of days, these Indian soldiers will soon get acquainted with their Chinese counterparts and make friends with them.
