Of all the large contingents involved in rush-repairing the power grids in
Chenzhou City of Hunan Province, the 300 officers and men from an engineering
and technological contingent of the Second Artillery Force (SAF) stood out most
conspicuously. Both military and civilian leaders praised them for playing a key
role at the critical time and at the key point.
It is a professional force indeed as all the 300 officers and men are
competent people in electrical engineering profession, and more than that, among
them 45 are specialists renowned in the PLA and the Second Artillery Force.
It is likewise a quick reaction force. All of them from 24 companies
reached the designated place, got grouped and got their equipment of over 40
tons in less than six hours.
At 00:30 of the Spring Festival Eve, they arrived at the destination in
three groups, and then pressed on with their journey at night to reach
Chengqianling and Suxianling sections where suffered the most serious damage of
power grids in Chenzhou City, making a good start in repairing the badly damaged
power grid. By 17:00, they had succeeded in repairing three double-base pylons
and one double-row towers. At 18:32, the power supply in the urban district of
Chenzhou City was restored and switched on one hour in advance, and the city was
basked in light again.
It was a day of science and technology, and the army of high competency
rendered outstanding services. The contingent brought 420 new-type engineering
equipment and professional tool sets for repair to the site, raising efficiency
of repair by a big margin. Over ten days after they threw themselves into
disaster relief and rebuilding, it has repaired and rebuilt transmission lines
and laid out cables for over 30km, checked up circuit of 235km, thus restoring
power supply for the 150,000 households and 3,000-odd factories in Chenzhou
City.
