Chinese medical servicemen stick to their posts in Lebanon

[ english.chinamil.com.cn 2008-05-12 ]

An uneasy calm prevails over Beirut, capital of Lebanon on May 11 after four day's bloody clashes. West Beirut, which was once under the control of opposition militants, has been turned over to the army today. However, the roadblocks on principal roads in Beirut and on its surrounding areas have not yet been removed, and at the moment the main road leading to Beirut's International Airport, the only civilian airport in Beirut, is still blocked.

Since the eruption of the armed clashes in Beirut, the officers and men of the Chinese second-grade peacekeeping hospital, who were supposed to rotate out of Lebanon on May 13, are now still keeping to their peacekeeping posts in high spirits. Since May 7, the Chinese UN peacekeeping force has frequently been sent for missions, as the wounded officers and men are on the increase, and the sick and the wounded treated by the Chinese second-grade peacekeeping hospital in the last three days amounts to 132.
