On the afternoon of June 1, a medical garbage collection vehicle of the
Mianyang Health Bureau drove in Beichuan field hospital of the Shenyang Military
Area Command for the purpose of carrying medical garbage like cotton balls,
medicine bottles and injectors away for innoxious treatment. According to Yang
Jinbao, president of the hospital, the field hospital is a home to injured
people from the quake-affected areas. In order to immunize the areas against
epidemic diseases, medical workers pay full attention to the treatment of
medical garbage lest any epidemic disease breaks out.
Situated in Leigu Town of Beichuan County, one of the largest temporary
settlements in the quake-hit area, the Beichuan field hospital of the Shenyang
Military Area Command mainly offers medical service support to injured people
and rescue and relief officers and men in the quake-hit areas. It assigned
special staff to sort out all medical garbage every day and took the initiative
to get in touch with the Mianyang Health Bureau, asking the local sanitation
departments to move the medical garbage away by special vehicle for the
innoxious treatment.
