Chinese peacekeepers in Lebanon obtain minesweeping accreditation

[ english.chinamil.com.cn 2008-07-16 ]

At 12:00 on July 15, a piece of happy news came from a minefield in southern Lebanon that all 60 officers and men of the Chinese Minesweeping Company of the 4th batch of the Chinese peacekeeping battalion to Lebanon had passed the test and obtained the minesweeping and battlefield clearing accreditation issued by the United Nations, becoming a minesweeping unit which obtained the accreditation with the shortest time.

According to Battalion Commander Li Yuanxiang, the United Nations stipulates that only the troops, which have obtained the minesweeping accreditation issued by the United Nations, can carry out minesweeping operations or the operations to clear aimable cluster in battlefield. It took some troops more than a month or even two years to obtain the accreditation. However through rigorous training, the Chinese peacekeeping battalion was able to obtain the accreditation with only ten working days.
