At 00:16 on the morning of December 7, the telephone in the on-duty room of
the Chinese Peacekeeping Medical Team in Sudan suddenly rang, the team was
ordered by the Second Theatre Headquarters of the UN Special Mission in Sudan
(UNSMS) to get ready to receive a seriously wounded UN employee. Thus a medical
rescue operation for saving the life of a wounded UN employee kicked off at
midnight.

As the patient's condition was very grave and might deteriorated at any
time, and in light of the scope of medical treatment responsibility laid down by
the UNSMS, the patient was sent by a helicopter to a three-grade hospital in
Khartoum under the escort of three Chinese medical personnel at 09:20 on the
morning of December 7.
