　　Over days, Shanghai initiated the orange alert warning of high temperature. However, the scorching weather has not dampened the enthusiasm of the servicemen of the Armed Police Shanghai Contingent, who are tasked with the security for the coming XXIX Olympiad, in their guard duty. The picture shows two armed policemen on guard duty around the Shanghai Stadium when the temperature reached 39 degree Celsius outdoors at 3:00 p.m. on August 3.

PLA and APF support Olympic Games

　　The PLA and the Armed Police Force (APF) make the vital forces participating in, supporting and contributing to the Olympic Games, and likewise the "organization volunteers" who shoulder the special tasks and sacred missions among the large contingent in support of the Olympic Games. Acting in accordance with the decisions and arrangements of the CPC Central Committee, the Central Military Commission and President Hu Jintao, the PLA and the Armed Police Force have been dynamically plunging into the Olympic support work including taking on the construction of key projects, personnel support, Olympic security and environmental beautification of the capital city, and have made vital phasic achievements.

PLA's participation in security work for Olympic Games in conformity with international practice

　　It is an international practice for the armed forces to get involved in the security work for the Olympic Games, which is also in keeping with the Chinese Constitution and international conventions. During the Beijing Olympic Games, the security work is mainly fulfilled by the police, professional security personnel and volunteers, while the PLA mainly takes charge of dealing with non-traditional threats to security with the focus on terrorist attacks using nuclear, biological and chemical means.
