(Source: CCTV.com)   2015-05-12

Two Chinese Navy missile frigates accompanied by a support ship have entered the Russian naval base of Novorossiysk for the first time in history, as they get ready to conduct joint exercises with Russia in the Mediterranean.

The Linyi and the Weifang arrived at the port on Friday to take part in World War Two Victory Day celebrations.

Each 4,000-ton vessel is relatively new, both entering service in 2007. This is the first time Chinese warships have entered the Russian base. The ships are set to head to a designated area in the Mediterranean Sea for joint drills with Russian forces.

The exercises will take place from May the 11th until the 21st. Nine ships in total are scheduled to take part in the first military drill of its kind in the Mediterranean.
