Cuban President meets with top Chinese general

  HAVANA, June 16 (ChinaMil) -- Raul Castro, President of the Council of State of Cuba and President of the Council of Ministers of Cuba, met with Fan Changlong, the visiting Vice Chairman of China’s Central Military Commission (CMC), in Havana, capital of Cuba, on the afternoon of June 15, 2015, local time.

  Fan Changlong conveyed Chinese President Xi Jinping’s kind regards and good wishes to Raul Castro, and expressed that since the establishment of the diplomatic relations between China and Cuba 55 years ago, the relations between China and Cuba, which have been carefully cultivated and personally pushed forward by the leaders of the two countries, have withstood the tests of ever-changing international situations and have been developing steadily.

  Fan Changlong mentioned that Chinese President Xi Jinping paid a successful visit to Cuba in July 2014, which promoted the bilateral relations between China and Cuba to a new development stage.

  Fan Changlong stressed that the goal of his visit to Cuba is to implement the consensuses reached by Chinese President Xi Jinping and Cuban President Raul Castro on developing the relations between the two countries and the two militaries, so as to further enhance the traditional friendship between the two countries and the two militaries, deepen the pragmatic cooperation between the two sides and push forward the constant development of the relations between the two militaries.

  Raul Castro also asked Fan Changlong to convey his kind regards and good wishes to Chinese President Xi Jinping. Raul Castro said that China is Cuba’s firm and reliable friend, and Cuba attaches high importance to its relations with China. Raul Castro hoped that the two militaries can further strengthen the pragmatic cooperation and constantly upgrade the level of the relations between the two militaries.

  Fan Changlong also called on Fidel Castro, former President of the Council of State of Cuba and President of the Council of Ministers of Cuba, on the same day.

  Fidel Castro said that China and Cuba have established traditional friendship, and China, as a country with the most population in the world, has a very promising future with its stable political and social environment and fast development economy.

  Fidel Castro believed that Chinese President Xi Jinping, a leader with great wisdoms, can well deal with major issues concerning China’s internal affairs and its diplomatic relations with other countries so as to ensure China’s steady development process.

  Fan Changlong also held talks with the Cuban Minister of the Revolutionary Armed Forces Leopoldo Cintra Frias, during which the two sides exchanged views on pushing forward the development of the relations between the two militaries of China and Cuba and made clear several measures to deepen the pragmatic cooperation between the two militaries.

  Zhang Tuo, Chinese Ambassador to Cuba, Adm. Sun Jianguo, deputy chief of general staff of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA), Gen. Wu Changde, deputy director of the PLA General Political Department (GPD), and Lieut. Gen. Song Puxuan, commander of the PLA Beijing Military Area Command (MAC), attended the above-mentioned activities.
