Development of military-civil airport to be guaranteed institutionally

BEIIJNG, June 20 (ChinaMil) -- The PLA Air Force and the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) held on June 17 a joint conference on the in-depth integrative development of military-civil airports in Beijing to deliberate the provisional regulations on operational support of military-civil airports used in combination by civil aviation and air force.

There are a total of 214 civil airports in China currently, of which the military-civil airports account for about one third.

The document set specific provisions on operational support of military-civil airports including the coordination mechanism, joint management and joint maintenance and so on.

The PLA Air Force and CAAC jointly held a working conference on the in-depth integrative development of military-civil airports for the first time in April 2015, and jointly issued a document on further strengthening operational support management of military-civil airports.

On the basis of the document, the PLA Air Force and civil aviation authorities established coordinative mechanisms to conduct joint maintenance of airport facilities, joint flight support for military and civil aircraft and joint management over the operation of airports. A pilot program has been carried out at two airports in Wuxi and Lhasa respectively.

As a result of the successful cooperation between the military and civil aviation departments, so far, 12 agreements and plans on the operational support of military-civil airports have been made concerning fire protection of planes, cleaning of runway pavement, medical rescue, etc..
