WAU, July 29 (ChinaMil) -- The United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) held a medal-granting ceremony at the UN House in Wau in the Sector West of UNMISS on July 26, 2016, local time, conferring the UN Peace Medal of Honor on 331 UN peacekeepers from China.
At the ceremony, Maj. Gen. Yang Chaoying, deputy commander of UNMISS Force, read the congratulation letters from Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General and head of the UNMISS Ellen Margrethe Løj and UNMISS Force Commander Maj. Gen. Johnson Sakyi.
Differing from the mission period of 8 months for the previous 13 batches of Chinese peacekeeping force to Wau, the mission period of the 14th Chinese peacekeeping force to Wau was extended for the first time to one year.
After arriving at its mission area in Wau in last September, the 14th Chinese peacekeeping force has accomplished 260-plus urgent, difficult, dangerous and heavy tasks. Its engineer detachment renovated the important material supply lines of South Sudan with building road over 600 kilometers and its medical detachment gave medical treatment to more than 5,100 patients/times with conducting 47 surgeries.
