SHANGHAI, Sept. 9 (ChinaMil) -- The guided missile frigate RSS Steadfast (FFG 70) of the Republic of Singapore Navy arrived in Shanghai for a four-day goodwill port visit on September 8, 2016.
The East China Sea Fleet with the PLA Navy held a ceremony at the pier to welcome the RSS Steadfast.
The visit is led by Commander Tjin Kai Ooi, commanding officer of the guided missile frigate RSS Steadfast. It is the frigate’s second visit to Shanghai since August 2008.
Rear Admiral Cheong Kwok Chien from the Republic of Singapore Navy arrived at Shanghai by plane on the morning of that day to participate in the visiting activities.
During the RSS Steadfast's visit to Shanghai, Rear-Admiral Cheong Kwok Chien and principal officers of the RSS Steadfast are scheduled to call on Rear Admiral Zhi Tianlong, deputy commander of the East China Sea Fleet of the PLA Navy, and Shi Guanghui, vice mayor of Shanghai.
During the frigate's stay in Shanghai, Chinese and Singapore sailors will conduct cross-deck visits, the Chinese side will hold a reception to welcome RSS Steadfast’s visit, while the Singapore side will present a deck reception, so as to further promote the exchanges between the sailors of both sides.
In addition, Singapore officers and soldiers will visit tourist attractions in Shanghai, including Oriental Pearl TV Tower, Shanghai City Planning Exhibition Hall, Yu Garden and Zhujiajiao Ancient Town.
After the visit, China military and Singapore military will conduct joint drill on such subjects as communication verification, ship formation movement and so forth in an undisclosed water area of the Yangtze River.
A total of 129 service members including 23 officers and 106 soldiers will pay their visit to Shanghai with the RSS Steadfast. The RSS Steadfast measures 114 meters in length and 16 meters in width with a draught of 6 meters.
The displacement of the RSS Steadfast is 3,200 tons with the mast height of 38 meters. The maximum navigation speed reaches 27 knots with the navigation range of 4,000 nautical miles at 15 knots.
