HONGKONG, Nov. 1 (ChinaMil) -- The People’s Liberation Army's Hong Kong Garrison carried out a joint military exercise, codenamed Defenders of Hong Kong - 2016D, at Tsing Shan Firing Range on October 31.
More than 500 Hong Kong residents from all walks of life watched the exercise. This was the second time that the PLA Hong Kong Garrison opened its military exercise to the public after China resumed jurisdiction of Hong Kong.
The exercise was held in the scenario that a group of armed spies occupied Tsing Shan to build a secret base there and intended to penetrate to Hong Kong Kowloon when the time was right.
In the exercise, the joint battle groups consisting of troops of the army, navy and air force units of the Garrison would fight against the armed spies and clear their secret base, to safeguard the life and property safety of people living in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR).
The joint exercise kicked off at around 10:30. The participating troops were using a wide range of weapons and equipment, such as armored vehicle, mortars, anti-tank rockets, air force helicopters and naval vessel jointly launched attacks at the imaginary enemy.
The joint exercise, as part of the PLA Hong Kong Garrison's annual training plan, is aimed at testing the Garrison troops' overall combat capability and training effects and demonstrating the resolve and ability of the Garrison to safeguard Hong Kong's security.
Since the year of 2016, the PLA Hong Kong Garrison has already held the "Defenders of Hong Kong - 2016A, B, and C" joint military exercises, which respectively focused on defense operations on land, at sea and in the air.
