UN medical officer visits Chinese peacekeeping hospital in Mali

2016年11月3日,联马团(联合国驻马里综合稳定特派团)首席医疗官(Chief Medical Officer,CMO)萨姆森先生一行4人,访问了位于马里共和国加奥市的中国二级医院。

GAO, Mali, Nov. 8 (ChinaMil) -- Dr. Mathiu Kanyili Sam, chief medical officer (CMO) of the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA), visited the Chinese level-II hospital in Gao city, Mali on November 3.

萨姆森先生是联马团医疗系统最高级别官员,曾在“5•31”恐袭救援中,协助中国二级医院在12小时内完成了重伤员向达喀尔三级医院的转送任务。

As the top medical officer with the MINUSMA, Dr. Sam once assisted the Chinese level-II hospital to evacuate the seriously injured Chinese peacekeepers to a level-III hospital in Dakar of Senegal within 12 hours after the terrorist attack in Mali on May 31 of this year.

访问期间,萨姆森先生参观了医疗区和诊疗设备、与医护人员进行了亲切交谈,称赞他们的骨折固定手术、皮瓣转移手术“非常漂亮、非常专业”。

At the Chinese level-II hospital, Dr. Sam toured the medical treatment area and medical facilities there. He talked with the medical staff and praised the Chinese doctors' fracture fixation operation and of skin flap transfer operation as perfect and very professional.

在观看“5•31”恐袭救援纪实视频后,萨姆森先生指出:“我觉得这是一个非常值得推广的战例,我希望能把它推荐给联合国首席医疗官和更多的同事观看”。

After watching a video recording the medical rescue operations after the 5/31 terrorist attack, Dr. Sam said that the practice adopted in this case is worth of promotion, and he expressed hopes to recommend the video to Chief Medical Officers of the UN and his other colleagues.

临行前,萨姆森先生说:“我在吉达尔的时候,曾在掩体里待了2个多小时,真正感受到了什么是战场,更对你们的工作有了深刻认识。通过走访中国二级医院,我知道了你们所面对的巨大困难和挑战,更知道了你们杰出的工作。加奥有你们真好,你们起到非常至关重要的作用!”

Before leaving, Dr. Sam said he once stayed in a shelter for over two hours when working in Kidal of northern Mali, and got personal experience of the battlefield. “The visit to the Chinese level-II hospital enables me not only to learn about the huge difficulties and challenges your are facing, but also to understand your excellent work,” he said.
