KUNMING, Nov. 14 (ChinaMil) -- The three-day 12th US-China Military-to-Military HA/DR (Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Reduction) Expert Academic Discussion kicked off in Kunming, capital city of Southwest China's Yunnan province, on November 13.
The Chinese and American sides each assigned 21 people to attend the discussion. The 21 members of the Chinese team consists of personnel from the Central Military Commission's Political Work Department, the Joint Staff Department, the Logistic Support Department, the International Military Cooperation Office, the Army Headquarters of the Southern and Western theater Commands, the 14th Combined Corps of the PLA Army, the Third Military Medical University and the Civil Affairs Ministry of China. The U.S. team members are from the U.S. Army Pacific and the 8th Theater Sustainment Command.
The discussion was focused on earthquake relief in high-altitude areas. The U.S. team gave reports on humanitarian aid training in mountainous areas and standard operational procedures of multinational forces HA/DR actions. The Chinese team briefed the attendees on the Chinese military's practice in organizing earthquake rescue and relief operations in high-altitude areas and participation in earthquake relief operations in Ludian of Yunnan province and Yushu of Northwest China's Qinghai province.
Besides the indoor discussions, the two sides will visit an anti-earthquake and disaster reduction technology base in Kunming, the earthquake emergency commanding center of Yunnan Seismic Bureau as well as emergency shelters in downtown Kunming.
