China, Malaysia to hold humanitarian assistance joint exercise

BEIJING, Nov. 18 (ChinaMil) -- China and Malaysia will hold a joint military exercise codenamed Peace and Friendship-2016 near Paya Indah, Malaysia from Nov. 22 to 25, 2016, according to a news release on the official website of China's Defense Ministry on Friday.

Themed on humanitarian assistance joint operations, the exercise is divided into two phases, namely desktop deduction and actual-troop drill.

Nearly 300 troops in total will be put into the exercise by both sides with 195 Chinese servicepersons, who are from China's Central Military Commission (CMC) departments, the Southern Theater Command and the PLA Hong Kong Garrison.

The 195 Chinese participating troops are scheduled to arrive in Malaysia on Nov. 18 by taking 3 IL-76 transport aircrafts of the Chinese PLA Air Force.

This is a routine joint military exercise between the two armed forces, which aims to deepen the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Malaysia, strengthen pragmatic exchange and cooperation between the two militaries and promote the capability of both sides in jointly dealing with realistic security threats and maintaining regional safety and stability.
