SELANGOR, Nov. 28 (ChinaMil) -- The four-day China-Malaysia joint military exercise codenamed “Peace and Friendship 2016” wrapped up in Selangor of Malaysia on November 25.
Li Weiya, exercise director of the Chinese side and director of the Strategic and Operational Training Bureau of the Joint Staff Department under China’s Central Military Commission (CMC) attended the exercise closing ceremony together with the commander of the Joint Forces Headquarters (JFHQ) of Malaysia and the director of the joint exercise planning office of the Royal Thai Army Command.
Li Weiya said at the ceremony that the joint military exercise, the third of its kind held by the militaries of China and Malaysia, is not only an important move to implement the consensuses reached by the leaders of the two countries and expand the exchanges and cooperation between the two militaries, but also an important platform to enhance the two militaries’ capabilities of jointly tackling challenges and maintaining the regional peace and stability.
The success of the joint military exercise showcased the professional capabilities of the strategic and operational commanding personnel, and the superb skills, excellent military accomplishments and high cultural literacy of the participating troops of the two countries, Li added.
The commander of the Joint Forces Headquarters (JFHQ) of Malaysia said that the “Peace and Friendship 2016” China-Malaysia joint military exercise, with the theme of humanitarian-assistance joint operation, showcased the level of military-to-military cooperation between the two countries.
The joint military exercise not only enhanced the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries, but also strengthened the relations between the two militaries, upgraded the two sides’ joint operational capabilities and enhanced the mutual understanding and trust, he added.
The “Peace and Friendship 2016” China-Malaysia joint military exercise, which was held in Malaysia from November 22 to 25, was divided into two phases, namely staff departments drill and actual-troop drill.
About 300 personnel from the two sides participated in the exercise. 195 personnel were from the Chinese side, which were mainly from the leading organs of the CMC and the Chinese PLA Southern Theater Command as well as from the PLA Hong Kong Garrison.
