Central govt. officials meet Chief Executive-Elect Carrie Lam

HONG KONG, March 30 (ChinaMil) – Three central government officials including Zhang Xiaoming, director of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), Tong Xiaoling, deputy commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China in the HKSAR, and Major General Tan Benhong, commander of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) Hong Kong Garrison met with Chief Executive-Elect Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor on the afternoon of Wednesday.

Zhang Xiaoming expressed congratulations to Carrie Lam on winning the region's fifth-term Chief Executive election.

Zhang said that the Liaison Office, as the representative office of the Central Government in Hong Kong, will continue to implement the "One Country, Two Systems" principle and the Basic Law. The office will earnestly fulfill the duties entrusted by the Central Government and support the Chief Executive and the HKSAR government in administering Hong Kong in accordance with the law, said Zhang.

Zhang also briefed Mrs Carrie Lam on the arrangements for the appointment of the Chief Executive by the Central Government.

Tong Xiaoling said that the Office of the Commissioner of China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs will continue to support the Chief Executive and the SAR Government in accordance with the Basic Law, safeguard national sovereignty, security and development interests, support Hong Kong to carry out foreign exchanges, protect Hong Kong compatriots’ overseas legal rights and promote Hong Kong's long-term prosperity and stability.
