Beijing starts to reward whistleblowers of espionage activities

BEIJING, April 10 (ChinaMil) -- A regulation promulgated by the Beijing Municipal National Security Bureau to rewards citizens who report clues of espionage activities officially comes into effect on April 10, 2017.

According to the document, for the information which plays important roles in the detection and cracking down of espionage cases, its providers are eligible for at most RMB 500,000 yuan (72460 U.S. dollars) as rewards. False accusations of others will also be subject to legal sanctions.

Counterintelligence needs the help and support of the masses.

As the reform and opening up deepens, there has been a significant increase in the number of foreign exchanges and the number of people going in and out of China.

Foreign intelligence agencies and other hostile forces have taken the opportunity to intensify sabotaging activities of various forms in China including political infiltration, subversive and separatist activities, theft of secrets, as well as connective defection inciting and so on.

There are also some people who intend to pursue personal gains by trading national interests, which provides foreign intelligence agencies loop-holes to steal China's secrets. As the capital city of China, Beijing is the top place for foreign intelligence agencies and other hostile forces to carry out activities of infiltration, subversion, secession, sabotage and theft of secrets in China.

Based on the above reasons and background, anti-spy investigation work urgently needs the help and support of the masses. The enthusiasm and consciousness of the masses to protect national security need to be stimulated, so as to build up the Great Wall of steel against espionage.

People who have clues can report in three ways.

First, dial the "12339" hotline to report the clues to the national security authorities.

Second, send mails to national security authorities and the address is No. 9, Qianmendong Street, Dongcheng District, Beijing. Post Code: 100740.

Third, go to the national security authorities in No. 9, Qianmendong Street, Dongcheng District, Beijing, where the reporter will be received by specially-assigned persons.

Beijing Municipal National Security Bureau will conduct verification based on the roles and effects of the clues. The rewards are classified into 3 grades. The first grade is from RMB 100,000 (14476 U.S. dollars) to 500,000 (72460 U.S. dollars) yuan, the second grade from RMB 50,000 (7241 U.S. dollars) to 100,000 (14476 U.S. dollars) yuan and the third grade from RMB 10,000 (1449 U.S. dollars) to 50,000 yuan (7241 U.S. dollars).

The reporter may, within 90 days from the date of receipt of the award notice, receive it directly with his or her identity card and may entrust others to take the reward.
