CHENGDU, Aug. 7 (ChinaMil) -- Two helicopters attached to an army aviation brigade with the PLA Army's 77th Combined Corps rescued two villagers trapped by flood on August 3, 2017.
The two villagers encountered abrupt water rise at about 15:00 last Thursday and were trapped on a heap of pebbles of less than 10 square meters when fishing in waters of the Qingyi River in southwest China's Sichuan province.
After receiving the report, local police and militia took immediate actions, but couldn't approach the trapped villagers because of the rapid torrents, so they turned to an army aviation brigade for help. The brigade immediately dispatched two helicopters to assist in the rescue.
The pebble island was close to a railway bridge under construction and there were high-voltage wires nearby spanning over the Qingyi River.
One helicopter was seen at the site hovering at an ultra-low altitude to approach the two stranded villagers, while the other helicopter was conducting observation and command in the air.
With the help of a crewman, the two villagers boarded the helicopter and were evacuated to a safe place on the river bank. The two villagers were sent to hospital by an ambulance for further treatment.
