DUSCHANBE, August 27 (ChinaMil) -- General Li Zuocheng, Chief of the Joint Staff Department of China's Central Military Commission (CMC), met with Mohammad Sharif Yaftali, Chief of General Staff of the Afghan National Army, who is attending the 2nd High-level Military Leaders' Meeting on Quadrilateral Cooperation and Coordination Mechanism (QCCM) in Counter Terrorism by Afghanistan-China-Pakistan-Tajikistan Armed Forces (the quadrilateral mechanism) forum in Dushanbe, capital of Tajikistan on the morning of August 27, 2017.

Gen. Li Zuocheng said that China and Afghanistan are traditional friendly neighbors, adding that President Xi Jinping and President Ashraf Ghani have reached important consensus on strengthening anti-terrorism and security cooperation.

The establishment of the quadrilateral mechanism embodies the firm determination and confidence of the four armed forces to jointly fight terrorism and maintain regional peace and stability, Gen. Li said.

Li said that China is willing to join hands with Afghanistan and other parties to overcome difficulties and challenges, unswervingly push forward the construction of the quadrilateral mechanism, strengthen bilateral anti-terror cooperation and multilateral coordination, promote effective cooperation of the mechanism and jointly safeguard regional peace and stability.

Sharif thanked the Chinese people and the Chinese army for their support to Afghanistan on anti-terrorism. He said that Afghanistan and China have long term friendly relations and Afghanistan attaches great importance to relations with China, and he hopes that China will play a constructive role in the process of countering terrorism and supporting peace and reconciliation in Afghanistan.

He added that Afghanistan is willing to deepen exchanges and cooperation with the Chinese armed forces, promote anti-terrorism cooperation under the quadrilateral mechanism, and safeguard common security and development interests of the region.

Rong Guiqing, deputy commander and chief of staff of the PLA Western Theater Command , also attended the meeting.
