International Maritime Search and Rescue Exercise of the Indian Ocean Naval Symposium

The opening ceremony of the International Maritime Search and Rescue Exercise (IMMSAREX) of the Indian Ocean Naval Symposium (IONS) was held on Nov. 27, 2017, in the waters near Cox's Bazar in Bangladesh. The Chinese PLA Navy sent its guided-missile frigate Yuncheng to participate in the exercise for the first time, receiving great attention and positive evaluation from all parties.

The missile frigate Yuncheng of the PLA Navy arrived in Bangladesh on Nov. 25 to participate in the multilateral maritime search and rescue exercise under the framework of the forum. This is PLA naval vessel’s third visit to Bangladesh within two years.

A total of 20 vessels from nine countries participated in this exercise. Frigate Yuncheng and five other ships from Bangladesh and Kenya participated in the aircraft crash search and rescue course. Other ships participated in the search and rescue of merchant ships on fire, search, and rescue of the fishing vessel respectively.

 

Chinese-Russian "Cooperation-2017" joint anti-terrorism training

The Chinese-Russian "Cooperation-2017" joint anti-terrorism training was held from Dec. 2 to 13, 2017. The training covers anti-terrorism skills and tactics, command training, tactics exchange seminars, and the campaign to jointly combat the armed terrorist groups in mountainous areas.

These exercises were conducted at a number of training grounds including the Integrated Training Ground of the Ningxia Contingent under the Chinese Armed Police Force and a tactical training base in Qingtongxia.

China and Russia sent 32 members respectively to form the mixed training groups to participate in the joint training. The Chinese Armed Police Force sent a codenamed "Sand Fox" commando unit, and the Russian National Guard dispatched a codenamed "Vityaz" commando unit and a codenamed "Rys" rapid response force.

"Aerospace Security 2017" Chinese-Russian Joint Anti-Ballistic Missile (ABM) defense computer command post exercise (CPX)

The "Aerospace Security 2017" Chinese-Russian Anti-Ballistic Missile (ABM) defense computer command post exercise (CPX) commenced in Beijing on Dec. 11, 2017.

The exercise was set against the backdrop of jointly dealing with the sudden and provocative ballistic and cruise missiles attacks on the territories of China and Russia. The two sides conducted joint exercises on the planning, command and firepower coordination of air defense and anti-missile operations through seminars and computer simulation.

The drill does not target any third parties. The two armed forces made new breakthroughs in anti-missile cooperation through the exercises.

"Cooperation Spirit 2017" joint humanitarian assistance and disaster relief tabletop exercise

The "Cooperation Spirit 2017" joint humanitarian assistance and disaster relief (HADR) tabletop exercise commenced in Nanjing on Dec.6, 2017. The venue of the joint exercise was located in the Naval Command College of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA).

A total of 28 military and civilian rescue professionals from China, Australia, New Zealand and the United States participated in the exercise covering subjects including command, logistics support and coordination.
