DARFUR, SUDAN, Feb. 23 (ChinaMil) -- The 14th Chinese peacekeeping engineer detachment to Sudan’s Darfur passed its first equipment inspection conducted by the African Union-United Nations Hybrid Operation in Darfur (UNAMID) in late February.
The equipment inspection is a comprehensive assessment of the United Nations (UN) on the availability of equipment of troop-contributing countries, which is designed to examine whether the equipment can meet peacekeeping requirements.
The inspection is also an important basis for the UN to provide economic compensation to its troop-contributing countries, which is known as a "zero tolerance" inspection due to its strict and critical procedures.
The inspection team sent by the UNAMID conducted comprehensive inspection of 4 types of UN assets and 179 vehicles, over 10,000 pieces (sets) of self-sustaining supplies and equipment of 46 types in 13 categories.
The 14th Chinese peacekeeping engineer detachment has completed tasks including road repair in Ed Daein City in southwestern Sudan and a cross-sector road survey since its deployment in late December, 2017.
Soon after the inspection, the detachment will send a construction team to Nertiti City, where the situation is also very serious, to make renovation and facelift of the roads.
