27th Chinese naval escort taskforce makes technical stop in Cape Town

CAPE TOWN, Feb. 24 (ChinaMil) -- The 27th Chinese naval escort taskforce consisting of the guided-missile destroyer Haikou, the guided-missile frigate Yueyang and the comprehensive supply ship Qinghaihu arrived at the Port of Cape Town, South Africa, on Feb. 19, for a 2-day technical stop.

The taskforce was welcomed at the port by more than 40 people including Consul General of China in Cape Town Kang Yong, Senior Colonel Wang Zhong, military attaché of the Chinese Embassy in South Africa, working staff of China-funded institutions and local overseas Chinese and Chinese nationals.

During the stop, the three vessels got material replenishment. Chinese naval officers and soldiers visited historical sites and scenic attractions in Cape Town. The taskforce also held a deck reception.

The taskforce departed from the Gulf of Aden on December 26, 2017 after completing four-month-long merchant ship escort missions in the Gulf of Aden and waters off Somalia. Before coming to South Africa, the taskforce had paid port calls to Algeria, Tunis and Morocco.
