BEIJING, March 21 (ChinaMil) -- The People's Liberation Army (PLA) Daily, flagship newspaper of the Chinese military, published an article on March 21 saying that "the current situation on the Korean Peninsula is facing an important opportunity for easing talks. We hope all parties concerned will work hard in a spirit of goodwill to maintain the current positive momentum."

The following is the full text of the article:

The favorable situation is a chance to solve the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue through negotiations. We should encourage, support and promote the political settlement process of the Korean Peninsula issue.

As a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson recently said, China will firmly remain committed to the goal of denuclearization on the Korean Peninsula, uphold the peace and stability on the Peninsula, and remain committed to settlement through dialogues and negotiations. China will continue to play its unique role in promoting dialogues between all parties and achieve good results in order to ensure a peaceful, stable and nuclear-free Korean Peninsula.

A special envoy of the Republic of Korea (ROK) lately visited the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) for the first time since 2007 from March 5 to 6 and reached consensus with the DPRK to hold a summit between the two sides.

This was another effort by the two sides to maintain the momentum of dialogue and relaxation following the visit by a DPRK delegation to the ROK during the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics, which has brought positive changes to the tense relations between the two sides and has been generally welcomed by the international community.

At the same time, we should also understand that in order to truly resolve the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue, the "two wheels" of the relations between the DPRK and the ROK and the relations between the DPRK and the US must all turn together.

The positive changes in the Korean Peninsula situation are conducive to reintegrating the denuclearization process onto the track of dialogue and resolution. That path is also the direction set by the UN Security Council’s resolution and has therefore been widely welcomed and positively evaluated by the international community.

As a close neighbor of the Korean Peninsula, China has always supported the improvement of mutual relations, promotion of reconciliation and cooperation between the DPRK and the ROK, and supported the contacts, dialogues and consultations to resolve concerns between the US and the DPRK.

The international community generally expects that the summit between the DPRK and the ROK and the dialogue between the DPRK and the US will advance smoothly and that the substantial progress will be made in promoting the denuclearization of the Peninsula and the normalization of mutual relations.

In the current situation, it is not easy to achieve a final settlement of the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue.

Historically, whenever the situation on the Peninsula has eased, all sorts of disturbances have come one after another. Now it is time to test whether all parties sincerely wish to finally resolve the matter.

We hope all parties concerned will show some goodwill, avoid things that may affect and interfere with the easing situation on the Peninsula and work hard to maintain the current positive momentum.

All parties must maintain patience and caution, show sincerity, use political wisdom, and properly handle and resolve various issues and interference during the resumption process of talks.

A nuclear-free, peaceful and stable Korean Peninsula is China's persistent position. China is willing to work with the international community to persuade all parties concerned to pursue a political settlement of the Peninsula issue in accordance with China's "Dual-track Approach" and beneficial suggestions from all parties.

Faith will move mountains.

As long as all parties are willing to pursue diplomatic settlement, we will make continuous progress in the direction commonly expected by the international community.

As long as all parties can focus on denuclearization and the fundamental goal of peace and stability, a peaceful solution will finally arrive on the Korean Peninsula.
