China and Azerbaijan eye further military cooperation

BEIJING, April 28 (ChinaMil) -- Chinese State Councilor and Defense Minister Wei Fenghe held talks here with Defense Minister of Azerbaijan Zakir Hasanov on Friday afternoon.

Wei said that in recent years, with promotion of the heads of state of the two countries, the relations between China and Azerbaijan have been developing smoothly and there has been fruitful cooperation in all areas.

Against the background of the continuous progress of bilateral relations, the cooperation between the two militaries in the areas of high-level contacts and personnel training has also developed steadily and achieved satisfactory results, Wei said.

China is willing to make joint efforts with Azerbaijan to deepen the pragmatic cooperation in defense and security areas, so as to provide a good security environment for the joint construction of the "Belt and Road Initiative" and jointly safeguard international and regional peace and stability, Wei told his Azerbaijani counterpart.

Hasanov said that Azerbaijan cherishes its friendship with China, and is willing to work with China to push forward the mutual beneficial cooperation in various fields between the two countries and their militaries to make new progress.

Before their meeting, Wei held a welcome ceremony for Hasanov and accompanied him to review the guard of honor of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA).
