Chinese troops to take part in "Vostok-2018" strategic drills in Russia

BEIJING, Aug. 21 (ChinaMil) -- According to the consensus reached by China and Russia, Chinese participating troops will leave for Russia from mid-to-late August to mid-September to take part in the “Vostok-2018” strategic military drills, the reporter quoted the Information Office of China’s Ministry of National Defense (MND) as saying. And both sides will hold a joint operations exercise at the Tsugol training range in Russia’s Trans-Baikal Region from September 11 to 15.

During the exercise, both the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) Northern Theater Command and the Eastern Military District of Russian Armed Forces will send personnel to form a joint operations command.

China will send around 3,200 troops, more than 900 pieces of military hardware as well as 30 fixed-wing aircrafts and helicopters to Russia to participate in the drills and take part in such drill subjects as mobile defense, firepower striking and counter-offensive.

The drills aim to consolidate and develop the China-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination, deepen pragmatic and friendly cooperation between the two militaries, and further enhance both sides' capabilities to jointly respond to various security threats. The drills are beneficial to maintaining regional peace and security and will not target any third party.
