PYONGYANG, Oct. 26 (ChinaMil) -- October 25 is the Memorial Day to remember the Chinese People's Volunteer Army (CPVA) march to the Korean War. China and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) held the renovation completion ceremony of the Martyrs Cemetery of the CPVA located in Kangdong County, Pyongyang City of the DPRK on the morning of October 25. At the same time, they paid their respects to the tombs of the martyrs, in deep mourning for the CPVA martyrs.
About 300 people from all walks of life, including staff from the Chinese Embassy in the DPRK and the DPRK's Ministry of Foreign Affairs participated in the completion and ritual ceremony.
Li Jinjun, Chinese ambassador to the DPRK, delivered a speech at the completion ceremony in which he remembered that 68 years ago, in the spirit of resisting the US aggression, aiding the DPRK and defending peace, the Chinese People's Volunteers fought side by side with the DPRK military and civilians and defended the peace and stability of the region and the world. Numerous Chinese volunteers sacrificed their lives and youth to the cause, and established bonds of friendship with the DPRK people through their sacrifice.
Li said that repairing, protecting and managing the CPVA martyrs’ memorial facilities is not only the common aspiration of both China and the DPRK, but also a common responsibility and mission. Advancing the renovation project of the Martyrs Cemetery of the CPVA has important and far-reaching significance for cherishing and comforting the CPVA martyrs, inheriting and carrying forward the great spirit of resisting the US and aiding the DPRK, and continuously consolidating and developing the traditional friendship between China and the DPRK.
Choe Song-chol, vice minister of Urban Management of the DPRK, said in his speech that the DPRK will earnestly safeguard the completed Martyrs Cemetery of the CPVA, and will continue to work with the relevant Chinese departments to complete the renovation work of other cemeteries of the CPVA on schedule, so as to make a due contribution to the friendship between the DPRK and China.
Subsequently, Li and Choe jointly unveiled the newly completed Martyrs Cemetery of the CPVA.
