Chinese Army gifts state-of -the art auditorium to Sri Lanka Army

(MENAFN - Colombo Gazette) China has gifted a state-of -the art auditorium to the Sri Lanka Army in Diyatalawa.

The auditorium was declared open by President Maithripala Sirisena and the Ambassador of China to Sri Lanka Cheng Xueyan.

The auditorium with a seating capacity for 785 people is a gift from the People's Liberation Army (PLA) of China, the Sri Lanka Army said.

Signing of a formal document between a senior Chinese Army Officer on behalf of the Ambassador and the Commander of the Army symbolized the formal transfer of the ownership of the new construction to the Sri Lanka Army.

The Sri Lanka Army said that the gift, a symbol of the long-lasting friendship between both countries as well as the armies began construction in 2014 after the then Commander of the Army, General Jagath Jayasuriya entered into a memorandum of understanding with China.

The Chinese Army has spent Rs.15 billion under the Phase 1 and RMB Yuan 18 m under Phases 2 and 3 for the project. (Colombo Gazette)
